Revolution in e-TOLL: the EURO standard alone will no longer save hauliers' wallets!
A real earthquake is coming in road tolls. The Ministry of Infrastructure is preparing major changes that could hit older fleets hard. Under the new draft act (UC74), the rules of the e-TOLL system will change beyond recognition. What exactly is in store?
A real earthquake is coming in road tolls. The Ministry of Infrastructure is preparing major changes that could hit older fleets hard.
Under the new draft act (UC74), the rules of the e-TOLL system will change beyond recognition. What exactly is in store?
🔹 New structure: The toll will be split into three parts. On top of the existing infrastructure fee, there will be costs linked to air pollution and a completely new element – a fee based on CO2 emissions.
🔹 Five emission classes: Lorries will be assigned to one of five new CO2 classes. The allocation depends, among other things, on the date of first registration and the vehicle's individual emissions.
🔹 No fixed rates: An emission class is not set in stone! Classes 2 and 3 will undergo mandatory reclassification every 6 years.
🔹 Strict checks: KAS (the National Revenue Administration) will scrutinise vehicle documents and the CEPiK database (Poland's central vehicle and driver register) to verify the accuracy of the data.
The principle is simple: the cleaner the lorry, the lower the cost of the journey. The biggest discounts will go to zero-emission electric vehicles. Although the draft is not due to come into force until Q3 2026, and specific per-kilometre rates are still unknown, hauliers already need to be thinking about the future of their fleets.
🤔 Is making tolls dependent on CO2 emissions a step in the right direction for the environment, or a death sentence for smaller transport companies?
