Imagine a huge lorry racing down the motorway completely without a driver. This isn't distant fiction, but an approaching reality!

Shocked? 🧐 That's exactly the point of the new EU project! Europe wants to completely change the rules of the game on the roads. The goal is simple: instead of people, advanced systems will take the wheel. 🤖 The new initiative aims to make the testing and everyday, commercial use of driverless lorries fast, safe and, above all, legal in many countries at once.

Poland has just joined a group of 18 EU member states that signed a joint declaration on the matter on 8 June in Luxembourg, together with the EU Transport Commissioner. The signatories want to create a single common market instead of 18 different legal systems. 📑

Here are the project's key assumptions:
📦 A focus on logistics – the development of modern technology will respond to real market needs, concentrating primarily on freight transport.
🌐 Common rules – countries will work out uniform technical requirements and procedures, aiming for mutual recognition of type approvals.
🤖 Full autonomy – the new regulations are meant to make it easier to run commercial operations even completely without a safety driver on board.
👉 European technology – priority in development will go to components, systems and vehicles designed and manufactured within the European Union.
💰 Financial support – in 2026, the "Connecting Europe" programme will allocate as much as €20 million to develop the necessary digital infrastructure.

Importantly, the document is a declaration of cooperation and does not create international legal obligations. Each country will retain full authority to decide independently on allowing such vehicles onto its national public roads. 🛑
